Editorial Policy
At The Annotators, trust is our only business model. Here is exactly how we work.
1. Independence
We are an independent product-research platform with 14.5K active users (last 30 days, 90% USA) and 3.1K Pinterest followers @NovieBrianna. We do not accept payment to place a product as a “Top Pick”. Brands cannot buy our recommendations.
2. How We Choose Products
We cover categories readers ask for: Automotive, Beauty & Personal Care, Electronics, Health & Fitness, Home & Kitchen, Outdoors, Pet Supplies. We select 3-5 products in the same price range and category (e.g., rich creams for dry skin $39-$100) and compare them side-by-side.
3. How We Compare (No Lab Testing)
We are transparent: There’s no lab testing here. As stated in our Tatcha comparison, “We built this comparison from official brand specs, public user reviews, and the complaints that show up repeatedly across retail platforms.” We track:
– Price per ounce at the most commonly purchased size
– Key active ingredients
– Texture and finish
– Best skin type / use case
– Pros & Cons based on verified buyer patterns
Any clinical claim like “3x hydration” is noted as a brand claim, not an independently verified result.
4. Revenue Model
We fund our research via affiliate commissions from ShareASale, CJ Affiliate, Awin, Rakuten. Our writers and researchers do not know which merchant pays more. Our comparison tables show multiple retailers (Sephora, Ulta, eCosmetics) for the same product, like Wirecutter, so you can choose.
5. Corrections & Updates
Product formulas and prices change. We include “Reference prices from official brand sites as of September 2026, subject to change.” If a product is reformulated or discontinued, we update the article and note the update date. If you find an error, contact info@theannotators.com – we correct within 48 hours.
6. Who Writes Our Content
All content is written and edited by Novie Brianna and The Annotators editorial team. We are not dermatologists or mechanics – we are researchers who aggregate real user data.
7. No Sponsored Content Without Disclosure
If we ever publish sponsored content (we currently do not), it will be clearly labeled “Sponsored” at the top.
